"Spending hours surrounded by nature from an early age, a connection with the natural world has stayed with me throughout my life. Discovering photography at Art College, it soon became the medium that helped express my fascination with all things that grow. I am usually attracted to details, things that are often overlooked, and irregularities I find intriguing. I hope that the viewer will see familiar things in a new way when they look at my photographs. Since moving to Scotland in 2005 I can't help but be inspired by the wonderful Perthshire landscape and unique Scottish light"

"The print is paramount to me, achieving accurate colour and subtle tones to bring out all the detail. I prefer to shoot on film and hand print my own work in my darkroom, but I do shoot more digitally these days. It is essential to me to maintain a level of quality in prints from digital capture. It took a few years to perfect, but I am now happy with traditional prints made by Loxley Colour from digital capture and a traditional photograph will last at least 75years!!"

After studying Art and Photography at Bournville College of Art from '89 - '93, Jo went on to graduate from Staffordshire University in '96 with a BA(hons)Design:Photography. Assisting commercial photographers and exhibiting her own work until '98, when she took a job at Kodak Professional for a year as a customer care rep. Still exhibiting her own work during this time she was driven to go solo, and started life as a photographer and returning to lecturing in '99.

Jo has exhibited all over Britain, including an installation of her images in The Waterlily House at Kew Gardens in 2002. Later that year her images were awarded a Silver-Gilt medal at the RHS London Flower Show. From 1997 - 2004 Jo lectured at Staffordshire University, UCE in Birmingham and Worcester College of Art, teaching photography and digital imaging on National Diploma and Degree Courses. Jo has been teaching at Crieff Learning Centre as part of Perth College since 2005. She has been running Photography Workshops since 2000, this involves tuition while out in the Strathearn countryside, helping enthusiasts improve their photographic skills, with hands on advice. One Day Sunday Workshops specialising in Close Up Photography and Landscape Photography are now running and One to One sessions also available, see Workshops for more details.

Jo specialises in photographs of the natural world. On many occasions her images have been mistaken for paintings due to the painterly qualities of her photographic style. Her images captured on film are hand printed in her darkroom, both B&W and Colour. Digitally captured images are printed in the same way using the traditional light sensitive process and a professional lab, Loxley Colour. Her photographs are on sale in Galleries, shops & at various Craft Fairs, and annually as part of Perthshire Open Studios. She has exhibited at Perth Museum and Art Gallery, The Bield at Blackruthven, Kew Gardens and many more places see events and exhibitions below for more details.

Commercial use of images on a variety of literature including brochures, leaflets, show guides, loo roll ! & in magazines and on websites. Jo was featured in the BJP 21.05.2003 issue. A large installation of 'Strathearn' at Crieff Visitor Centre's restaurant 30ft x 11ft situated behind the serving counter and several large framed B&W images of the local area. Her images are in the executive suites at Crieff Hydro Hotel. Commercial work is captured digitally and includes small product shots to buildings, jewellery, ceramics, artwork, interiors & exteriors. Flowerphotos slide library have had selection of Jo's work since 1998 and The Big Art Company produce her images on Canvas.

Recent commissions from Stirling City Heritage Trust photographing the architecture of McLuckie & Walker in Stirling and for Drummond Castle and Gardens capturing sets of images in Spring, Summer and Autumn. See Commercial for selection of images and links.
